Approaching lexical loss in Canarian Spanish undergraduates: A preliminary assessment

María-Isabel González-Cruz is an Associate Professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where she teaches Pragmatics. She has published widely on the Anglo-Canarian socio-cultural and linguistic contact, and written many articles on sociolinguistics, pragmatics, ELT, lexicon and travel literature. Her co-authored chapter "Dimensions of the Intercultural: British Images of Spain" won the "Enrique García-Díez" 1998 National Prize on Research in Literature in English. She also coauthored the university textbook "Introducing Semantics & Pragmatics: A Reader & Workbook" (2003), and edited "Lengua, sociedad y cultura: estudios interdisciplinares (2006)". More recently she co-published "Anglicismos en el habla juvenil de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria" (2009) and "Introducing Pragmatics: A Reader & Workbook" (2013, forthcoming). Coeditor of "Revista de Lenguas para Fines Específicos", leader of the research team "Estudios sociolingüísticos y socioculturales" & Head of the ULPGC Modern Languages Department, currently her research focuses on pragmatic aspects of Canarian Spanish.
