The second issue of JPEVAL is now available

The Journal of Policy Evaluation (JPEVAL) publishes its second issue, further consolidating its role as a platform for rigorous and policy-relevant research in the field of public policy evaluation.

Building on the foundations of its inaugural volume, this issue brings together contributions that reflect the increasing maturity and scope of the evaluation field. The articles combine advanced quantitative methods, mixed-methods approaches, and institutional analysis, offering a comprehensive perspective on how evaluation contributes to the design, implementation, and governance of public policies.

The volume is structured around four complementary dimensions. First, it includes contributions focused on the ex-ante evaluation of redistributive policies using microsimulation techniques, providing evidence on the distributive and fiscal implications of alternative policy designs. Second, it presents evaluations of policies in complex territorial contexts, such as education and urban tourism, where outcomes depend on the interaction between social, economic, and institutional factors. Third, it incorporates an analysis of the institutionalisation of evaluation within government agendas, highlighting the political and organisational conditions that enable its consolidation. Finally, the issue explores emerging methodological frontiers, including participatory approaches to assessing the social impacts of artificial intelligence in urban environments.

Taken together, the contributions illustrate the role of evaluation as an integrative framework that connects empirical evidence, contextual understanding, and institutional practice. They also highlight key challenges, including identification constraints, governance limitations, and the need for methodological innovation in increasingly complex policy environments.

The issue features contributions from researchers and practitioners across academic institutions, public administrations, and private organisations, reinforcing the journal’s multidisciplinary orientation and its commitment to bridging research and policy practice.

JPEVAL is an initiative promoted by Afi, KSNET and the Spanish Society for Public Policy Evaluation (SEE), which jointly reaffirm their commitment to advancing the dissemination of knowledge and to promoting evaluation as a central instrument for improving public policy and strengthening evidence-based decision-making.
