JPVAL was created with the aim of strengthening and expanding scientific knowledge in the field of evaluation, providing empirical evidence on the results and impacts of public policies. Its objective is twofold: on the one hand, to serve as a bridge between scientific research and political decision-making, and on the other, to offer a reference point for the dissemination of new methodologies, empirical approaches and theoretical frameworks in the field of evaluation.

With an international and multidisciplinary orientation, the journal welcomes contributions from researchers, academics and professionals who examine the design, implementation and effectiveness of public policies in different sectors and contexts. Its areas of interest include the evaluation of public reforms and programmes, the role of policies in the social situation, economic and environmental well-being, and the development of new data-based methodologies and analysis techniques.

Published articles undergo a rigorous peer review process involving experts and leading figures in the field under analysis, ensuring the highest standards of academic and professional quality. JPEVAL will be published twice a year (April and November) and will publish works in English, promoting the international profile of the Spanish research community in the field of evaluation.

The first issue of JPEVAL addresses a wide range of topics that reflect the maturity and projection of the field of public policy evaluation in Spain. The articles delve into key issues such as the institutionalisation of evaluation in public administration and its digitisation; the impact of employment and social protection policies, with special attention to access to the Minimum Living Income and the homeless population; the quantification of administrative burdens and bureaucratic costs for citizens; the evaluation of childcare policies from a gender perspective; and the possibilities offered by artificial intelligence to improve evaluation processes. Overall, the issue inaugurates an editorial line that combines methodological rigour, innovation and applied relevance for public policy, confirming the pulling power of the new journal and the need for its launch to boost this field of research.

The issue features contributions from researchers and professionals from different public and private spheres. This diversity of backgrounds, bringing together academics, data analysts and policy designers and implementers, consolidates the multidisciplinary nature of the journal and its long-term commitment to building bridges between academia, scientific evidence and institutional practice.

With this initiative, Afi, Ksnet and SEE reaffirms its commitment to disseminating knowledge and promoting evaluation as an essential tool for improving public policy and strengthening evidence-based decision-making.

We also encourage you to disseminate, share and comment on the publications with your colleagues and professional networks.
