Ricardo Roso; from academicism to modern heterodoxy

Abstract:

The aim of this article is to present both a graphic analysis and an approach to the work of the architect Ricardo Roso Olivé. In addition to saving a generation of architects from oblivion, the analysis of the compositional characteristics of Ricardo Roso’s works is proposed, from a graphic point of view, comparing the intentions of his plans. Not to mention his volumetric proposals shadowing the echoes of rationalists who thundered far away and intersected with formal demands that became acceptable to the bourgeoisie. This paper works with the hypothesis of how the eclectic repertoire of formal solutions - common among young professionals far from the two metropolitan centres but close to tradition - Madrid and Barcelona - would be widely accepted in capital of Turia (Valencia) and the one who at an architectural level, raised the most emblematic highlights of our city. His artistic vision and personal commitment made him a significant figure in shaping the perception of architecture during the period of the Second Spanish Republic in the city. Through the analysis of his works, we can appreciate and understand the architectural and artistic currents that influenced him, his achievements and, in this way, and his contribution to Valencian architecture.
