Abstract:
Moutidos Park is one of the most outstanding urban interventions in the career of the architect João Álvaro Rocha. Through a sequential reading of the drawings presented here, some of which have never been published, we study the conceptual order system of the project and its graphic expressions, the operations that make it possible and the typological and constructive system that materialises it. The analysis presented here reveals the architect’s concerns about the coherence between the general and constructive order and the visual consequences of defining the elements that shape the project. The interpretation of the drawings presented supports the idea that the sketch is an essential tool that allows the convergence of all design decisions and is useful in all phases of project development.
