Author Guidelines
The journal EGE Revista de Expresión Gráfica en la Edificación does not have either article submission charges or article processing charges (APCs).
All submissions, both articles and reviews, must be submit through PoliPapers platform, you can consult Guía para la realización de un envío en línea.
When an article/review was accepted for publication, editor will ask author submitter a transfer rights document signed by all authors that appear in it.
Journal Sections
1. Original Research
This section includes articles presenting original scientific analyses, interpretations, and results that constitute a significant contribution to one or more of the journal’s thematic areas. Manuscripts submitted to this section must follow a scientific structure that includes: an introduction and background, objectives, a detailed methodology, results, conclusions, and references. The section emphasizes originality, academic rigor, and contribution to scientific development.
The length of the article text (including the title, author/s, affiliation/s, abstract, keywords, main text, figure captions, acknowledgements, notes, and references) must range from a minimum of 25,000 to a maximum of 40,000 characters, including spaces. The inclusion of tables and images that enhance the understanding of the text is recommended. A maximum of 15 images per article is permitted (Template 1).
2. Applied Graphic Research
This section includes applied research articles that combine a strong methodological and graphic approach, focusing on graphic surveys, documentation, and reproducible procedures within the fields of architecture and building construction. These contributions generate new, relevant knowledge for the discipline, providing results that can be replicated and used by other researchers. The section integrates scientific rigor with a significant visual component, allowing the findings to contribute effectively to the advancement of knowledge.
The article structure is divided into two parts:
Part 1: This part contains the main text of the article, including the introduction and/or background, objectives, a detailed methodology, results, conclusions, and references, as well as the abstract and keywords. The total length of the text (including the title, author/s, affiliation/s, abstract, keywords, main body of the article, figure captions, acknowledgements, notes, and references) must range from a minimum of 12,000 to a maximum of 40,000 characters, including spaces (Template 2-1).
Part 2: This part includes the graphic appendix , in DIN A3 format, as an integral component of the article. It may contain drawings, original plans, or any other graphic material derived from the surveys carried out by the author/s, with the aim of facilitating the understanding of the procedures and results obtained.
Across both parts, a maximum of 25 images, drawings, and/or plans is permitted, all of which must be representative of the content.
3. Book and Doctoral Thesis Reviews
Book and doctoral thesis reviews must not exceed 2,000 characters. Book reviews shall include the following information: title, author/s, publisher, place of publication, year, and ISBN. Doctoral thesis reviews shall include the following details: title, author, supervisor/s, examination committee, date, place of defence, and final grade.
Book reviews may include an image of the book cover, while doctoral thesis reviews may include an illustrative image. In both cases, all images must comply with the same technical requirements established for research articles (Template 3).
Submission
EGE Revista de Expresión Gráfica en la Edificación is published under a diamond open access model, which means that no publication fees or access charges are applied, and the journal is supported by institutional funding. Manuscripts may be submitted on an ongoing basis, following a continuous publication system, with two issues per year, published in June and December.
Submissions must be made exclusively through the PoliPapers platform. Authors are required to register when accessing the system for the first time. Users with an active account only need to log in and access their author profile. The Guide for Online Submission is available for consultation.
Once a manuscript has been accepted, the Copyright Transfer Agreement, signed by all listed authors, must be uploaded to the platform. Unless otherwise indicated, the person submitting the manuscript will be considered the corresponding author.
Originality
Only original manuscripts that have not been previously published and are not under consideration by other journals will be accepted. To verify the originality of submissions, manuscripts will be screened using the Similarity Check platform. Subsequently, all research articles will undergo a rigorous peer review process, including an initial editorial screening and external anonymous review under a double-blind system.
Manuscripts that are rejected will be discarded, and no further correspondence will be maintained following notification of the editorial decision. Published articles will indicate the dates of submission, acceptance, and publication.
Language
All articles will be published entirely in English. Optionally, authors may also include the full text in their native language, which must be added at the end of the article (without images). For the peer review process, authors may submit the manuscript in Spanish, Italian, or English. Once the article has been accepted, and if a language other than English has been used during submission, the final English version will be required and must be submitted within two weeks.
Authors, or author teams, are strongly encouraged to have their manuscript reviewed by a native English speaker. When manuscripts are written in English, consistency must be maintained, avoiding the mixture of American and British English. Likewise, when Spanish is used, authors should avoid mixing international Spanish with Latin American variants.
Content
All research articles must follow a clear structure that includes: Title, Abstract, Keywords, Main text with a scientific structure (introduction, background, objectives, methodology, results, discussion, conclusions), Acknowledgements, Funding, Author Contributions, Conflict of Interest, Statement on the Use of Artificial Intelligence, and References. In the case of articles submitted to the Applied Graphic Research section, manuscripts must also include graphic appendices that allow further exploration of the research and facilitate the understanding of the procedures and results.
Notes, if included, must be placed as footnotes and should be used exclusively for supplementary information, not for bibliographic citations.
When research data deposited in a FAIR-compliant repository are used, a bibliographic reference must be included at the end of the article, before the reference list, under the heading “Availability of deposited data”. This section must include a description of the type of data, the name and URL of the repository, the identifier code, and the terms of the license for use and distribution (Research Data Policy).
Submitted manuscripts must comply with the formal, stylistic, and bibliographic requirements established in the corresponding template, according to the article type. Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements will be returned.
Submission Formats
Manuscripts must be submitted in digital format and provided both as an OpenOffice or Microsoft Word file (.odt, .doc, .docx) and as an anonymous PDF file intended for peer review. In the latter, the name/s of the author/s and any information that could identify the research team must be removed.
In both versions, images, figures, and tables must be embedded in the text and numbered sequentially in their corresponding positions.
Images, Figures, and Tables
Images must be submitted numbered according to their order of appearance in the text, as separate files in JPG or TIFF format, with a minimum resolution of 300 pixels per inch (ppi) and adjusted to the dimensions of the journal layout.
The responsibility for managing any image reproduction rights lies with the author/s. The author, or author team where applicable, is responsible for obtaining all necessary permissions for the publication of copyrighted material and releases the journal from any liability arising from potential claims or legal disputes.
Images for which no source is indicated in the figure caption will be understood to have been produced by the author/s.
Acknowledgements
If included, acknowledgements must be placed at the end of the article, before the references.
Funding
The source of funding for the research must be acknowledged, where applicable. The full reference to the funding source (Project title, Funding body/bodies, Programme or call, Reference number) must be included in the metadata section “Funding Agencies” (Funding Sources Policy).
Author Contributions
The role of each author in the preparation of the manuscript must be specified (e.g., study design, data collection, analysis, writing, critical revision, etc.). Authors may, if they wish, use the CRediT taxonomy (Contributor Roles Taxonomy).
Conflict of Interest
Any financial or personal conflicts of interest that could have influenced the work must be disclosed, where applicable.
Statement on the Use of Artificial Intelligence
Authors must declare the use of generative artificial intelligence and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process, including language editing, translation, or drafting support. Where such tools have been used, the specific tool and the purpose of its use must be indicated. Authors remain fully responsible for the content of the manuscript.
Citations and References
In-text citations must be indicated in parentheses as follows: (Surname, year). For two authors, the format will be (Surname and Surname, year). In the case of three or more authors, citations should be formatted as (Surname et al., year).
References must be included at the end of the English version of the manuscript, listed in alphabetical order and, for each author, chronologically. Only works cited in the text must be included. All references must conform to the American Psychological Association (APA) Style, 7th edition.
When citing data hosted in a FAIR-compliant repository, such data must be properly cited following a specific data citation format and must appear alongside the rest of the bibliographic references in the publication. In addition to the complete bibliographic reference, the citation must include the unique and persistent identifier of the repository in which the data are hosted.

Editorial Process
Upon receipt of a new submission, the editorial team will verify that it complies with the journal’s contribution types and thematic scope.
If the submission passes this initial screening, it will enter the peer review stage, during which the editorial board will appoint two expert reviewers to prepare independent evaluation reports. These reports will assess the manuscript’s content, originality, and relevance to the journal’s scope, as well as its methodological soundness, bibliographic and formal quality, and its contribution to the field of knowledge, following a double-blind peer review system. In the event of conflicting reports, a third review will be requested.
The reviewers’ reports will serve as support for the editorial decision, which rests with the editorial board. The corresponding author will be informed of the decision, which may be: acceptance of the submission, acceptance with minor revisions, a request for major revisions (in which case the revised manuscript will be subject to a new round of peer review), or rejection. The editorial board aims to justify its decision and to provide guidance to the author(s) regarding the relevance and potential of their research.
An initial editorial decision (acceptance or rejection) will be made within the first three months, and final acceptance will be communicated within six months of submission, depending on the volume of submissions being handled at any given time.

The editorial decision following peer review will normally be communicated within a maximum of three months, and final acceptance within six months of submission, depending on the volume of submissions being handled at any given time.

Data will be retained for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which they were collected and to determine any potential responsibilities that may arise from that purpose and the processing of the data, as well as while your consent remains valid. However, data may be retained, if applicable, for public interest archiving, scientific and historical research, or statistical purposes.
The University will not share your data with third parties unless required by legal or judicial obligation. However, service providers related to the processing purposes may have access to your data, and some may perform international data transfers. In such cases, the University has adopted appropriate safeguards in accordance with Articles 45 to 49 of Regulation (EU) 679/2016.
