Resumen

El regadío ha sido, sigue siendo y será uno de los pilares básicos para el desarrollo y mantenimiento de la población humana. Su evolución pasada ha ido al unísono del avance de los conocimientos en materias propias de agronomía e ingeniería del agua y de la tecnología (desarrollo de materiales plásticos, elementos electrónicos...) llegando a un estado actual en el que todavía están por resolver muchos interrogantes que quedan como retos para el futuro. Cabe destacar el fuerte impulso del regadío en Brasil en la última década. Aprovechando el relanzamiento de la revista Ingeniería del Agua se presenta una visión del regadío, dentro del espacio limitado de este artículo, que incluye algunas de las líneas de investigación actuales, algunas novedosas como la relacionada con el movimiento del agua en el sistema suelo-planta de las especies mediterráneas y sus consecuencias en el usodel agua, con el fin de motivar la publicación en Ingeniería del Agua de artículos relacionados con la variada temática que integra el estudio del Regadío en las comunidades de lengua española y portuguesa.
